Swensens

Ever had Swensen's Executive Set Lunch? I tried it just before I left Singapore and let me say, standards have dropped a lot. It used to be a lot better last time, but now... well, I wouldn't order what I had again. And it used to be one of my favourites.

The Executive Set Lunch consists of drinks (coffee/tea/soft drinks), a soup of the day and the "designer" ice-cream for dessert.

We had F&N Grape

Soup of the day was Cream of Corn. It arrived lukewarm, not as hot as soups should be plus the taste was below average. Canned soup would have probably tasted better.

For my main course, I had the Crayfish Pasta ($15.90)

I used to order this all the time whenever I came to Swensens, it was my all-time favourite. Well, this and the Fish and Chips, which I still like very much by the way. Just not the pasta anymore. The spaghetti was limp, the whole dish lacked flavour and taste. It was so bland and ... unappetizing. It looks the same as I had it other times but the taste was so different. Was really disappointed and felt dissatisfied. The last time I had the Fish & Chips I had it at the outlet in Orchard Rd and it was good... Hmmm. Anyway, last time I'll be ordering this. For the price I paid, the food was so not worth the money. I don't know if it was that particular outlet, or that particular chef or whatever, because I've had it at the Orchard outlet (which is my fav Swensens outlet, btw) and it was good. So... I wouldn't know.

We also had Spaghetti Bolognese ($11.90). This was also a disappointment... The one at Pizza Hut is much tastier. It was very ordinary, very... blah. Spaghetti Bolognese is a fairly easy dish to cook and is in almost every pasta place so this was once again, a big disappointment. It tasted really bland. Like as if there were no herbs & no spices.

By the time dessert came, we weren't in any mood to even have it, lol. They call it the 'designer ice cream' but actually it's just a scoop of ice cream with some caramel sauce on the plate with a biscuit. Right... I didn't like the caramel sauce because it's just too sweet and it'd drown out the natural flavours of the ice cream. I didn't even touch my biscuit, I just went for the ice cream. Sad to say, it was probably the best thing I liked about this lunch.

Yam ice cream

Mint ice cream (I'm not a fan of mint... it always reminds me of toothpaste)

All in all, a very disappointing lunch. We actually rushed there to get the executive set lunch and it was my last few days in Singapore in feb 09, so it was such a waste. Once again, a waste of time, a waste of calories and a waste of stomach space. I feel like my stomach space is so important in Singapore. Isn't it really important to choose a place with good food for lunch, tea, dinner & supper?! You wouldn't want to eat below average or crappy food where it would be a waste... of stomach space.

The only thing I'll order from Swensens now is the Fish & Chips ($14.90) and the Banana Crumble ($15.90). I'm not exactly sure if these are the prices... can't remember:S
